Because knowing is half the battle

This here is another part of "lunch box" collection. I got it for 50 cents at the flea market one day. Justin and I had gone there to sell stuff, and like usual, I ended up wanting to shop. It is dated 1987, and is very well loved. My 3 year old son just doesn't get why it's on a shelf and he's not allowed to drink from it. Although, I did let him take the Wuzzles thermos with us when we went to the tree lighting downtown, it was cold and the hot chocolate was AMAZING!

I remember my dad getting me out of bed in the mornings by telling me I was going to miss Transformers and GI Joe. If you couldn't tell I was a bit of a tomboy, I guess I still am. Now, my son LOVES Transformers, the cartoon (the new one at least) and the movies, but has yet to see GI Joe. I'm not really sure why, we just haven't got around to it.

Na na na na SHIRT TALES!

This is one of the few things I have that is OLDER than me. Most everything is older than my husband though, but THIS is dated 1980. Of course like most of the "Hallmark Card Cartoons", the merchandise came out before the cartoon aired, so even though I was only 3 or 4, I still remember watching this at my Grandmom's house with my uncle, who at the time was only about 10 years older than myself. It was probably reruns, but still, I remember it. The earliest memory I have is watching this, an episode where I think they were on a train.

I found this at a Good Will. There was a Belkie Bear like I had when I was a kid sticking out in the pile of stuffed animals. When I pressed the button to make it play Christmas music, it was louder than I remembered, and played like 20 songs, so I put it back, when I was putting it back, I saw the lunch box buried underneath some other ratty looking toys. I dug it out, thrilled, that I found it, and that it was only 50 cents.

Holy She-Ra!

So, around here we have a twice yearly sale called Wee Trade. You take your kids stuff, they sell it for you, and you get to look through other people's kid's stuff to buy it. Mostly I get my son books. He has STACKS of books, and he can't even read yet.
Some people sell their books individually, and some pick a few books out (that usually are part of a set) bind them together and sell it as a lot. So while I was browsing I came across a gallon size ziplock bag that has some girly books on top and bottom. But just a little bit longer than other books, just long enough so the top of the book was sticking out, was this book:

All I could see was the "Princess of Power" at the top. I was all excited when I got it. My husband couldn't understand why I was all giggly and happy. And why I paid $5 for a bunch of books that were no good for our son. Either way, here is a link to imdb, that has free She-Ra! videos, PS, you have to have the exclamation point, it's like the icing on the cake.

Smurfs in the Sun

Okay so maybe it's just "Smurf in the Sun."
Anyway, one of my New Years Resolutions was to to pretty much copy this guy, and use it to document a years worth of vacations and day trips. We just got back from the beach this last weekend, so it was my first chance to actually do it. The one in the sand turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. We are supposed to be going to Tennessee in 2 weeks for my birthday, so I'll get another chance. I really want to work it with perspective and play around with it. It'll be nice to see a whole album with all the places I've went.

Na na na na DUCK TALES!

I used to LOVE watching this show with my sister. My husband thinks I just by things that were popular when I was a kid. NO, I only get things that I liked when I was younger. Things that I wanted, but we couldn't afford. Which is why I'm looking for a locket for myself. I wanted one SO bad when I was a kid, but no one ever got it for me.

Rainbow Brite Dreams

Last year I think we got 2 snows, the first flurries that were gone by the next morning. The second got me 2 days out of work, 1 because of the snow, and another because of all the mud that was left when the snow melted.
This year we have had 2 whopers so far, and another one is supposed to be here tonight. They all start on Friday, so I can't go anywhere. Last weekend I got TONS done, and I have stocked up supplies that way I can keep busy this weekend too.
I got a new book in the mail Friday: "Weekend Sewing" by Heather Ross. I got to try a few things out right away, like this pillow. It is called the "Guest Room Pillowcase."
Maybe it's cause my pillows are on the smaller side, but it was huge compared to the other "store bought" pillow cases I have. I tried to fix it by making the edge that folds over deeper, and brought in the seems on the side. It is still bigger that the other pillow cases I use, but not so much that it is flopping around.
After I finished this one, I made another for my husband, using some UNC fabric Malachy helped me pick out. I didn't use this pattern, I just sort of eyeballed it. Justin is more than happy with it, so I guess it is a hit.

HEMAN gift set for the Kitchen

2 friends, and family members, just bought their first house. And even though Justin says people don't like homemade gifts, I don't like giving store bought gifts. As a joint Housewarming/Birthday present, I made this set of things for their kitchen. Personally, I feel like it is perfect for them. There are 2 dishtowels, that I made the same way as the Strawberry Shortcake ones that are in my kitchen, but instead, I used blue dishtowels to start, and HeMan fabric for the strip. There are 5 cloth napkins that I made folling the pattern in Heather Ross' book, "Weekend Sewing." And to put them in, I used another pattern for the book, for a drawstring bag. It's great, because it isn't so much a pattern as instructions, so I made it the size I wanted.

I didn't even use half of the bed sheet that the fabric came from, and I only paid 2 dollars for the plain dishtowels, not too bad, if I do say so myself.
