SSC Dish Towels

I got another set of Strawberry Shortcake sheets, this time from ebay. To me, if you are thinking of something to make with SSC fabric, the obvious choice would be something for the kitchen. My sewing skills are seriously lacking, otherwise I would have made an apron, but I bought some plain white dishtowels I thought I could add a little something to.

I have been trying to use as much of my scraps as possible, and who wanted want to eith this fabric. I've been making homemade pads and a LOT of gift bags. I went with the later this time.

I'm thinking about next some curtians. Not too much of the fabric, like maybe just the ruffles in the SSC. Of course that means I have to learn how to do ruffles. Or maybe some letters like these on the kitchen set of Cougar Town. No sewing involved.Thursday, January 14, 2010
SMURFS!!!
This Christmas was the first year I really had to worry about my son, Malachy, giving away hints and secrets on what I got or made for people. He still managed to tell my sister and his dad what they got. My parents on the otherhand found the trick. Lie to him. We were shopping for his presents and I saw this Smurf stuffed animal that I wanted. I told Malachy to tell his grandparents. A few days later we were watching Smurf videos on youtube. Malachy sits on my lap watching and says "That's the thing you wanted Nanny and Poppa to get you!" I like to be surprised on Christmas, but I still wanted to know if I needed to buy my own. Malachy told me "Nanny and Poppa said you were too old for toys." So I didn't think I was going to get it. I went back to the store, and they were sold out of Poppa Smurf, and Smurfette, so I just got a "regular" Smurf. I was a little upset about not getting the other ones, so when I opened it Christmas I was SURPRISED, and a little happy I didn't buy Poppa Smurf myself.
I acted all mad at Malachy "You lied toMommy!" then my mom said, "no WE lied to HIM."

Cartoon Candy
I got some candy molds off of ebay, Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, and Carebears. The only one I didn't get was the Smurfs. I wasn't sure how blue chocolate would appeal to people. We had a Christmas party planned for the begining of December, but snow kept pushing it back and back until the roads were good enough in January.

Trying to Start Them Young

I am boycotting Walmart. After 3 bad visits in a month, I have had enough. I am resorting to finding the things I shopped for at Walmart at other places. There is a fabric store in town that is locally owned. They have a better selection of fabric and supplie, but they are more expensive and not near any other store I need to go to. But after getting charged $12.50 for a 12 cent piece of ribbon, then spending 45 minutes sorting out the problem, I went to "Foam and Fabric" out of spite. I found this Strawberry Shortcake fabric, it was made in 2005, but has the older, 80s version, on it. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but I wanted it. I decided to make my neice another blanket to put away until her birthday in August. Of course after I finished it, I remembered I have another neice (in-law) around the same age who's birthday is in February, so I am making another one for her. I haven't sewn anything since I was pregnant with my son, who is now 3 1/2. It could have ended up a lot worse, but all in all, I am okay with the way it turned out. I think my sister will like it, since we used to watch Strawberry Shortcake when I was younger. I remember I had some SSC pajamas, that were of course hand-me-downs, from her, that I loved. If only I had a pattern/skill/time/ability to make some for my neice. By the way, her name is Annalee, hence the "A" that I haphazardly applied.
